When we listen to music, we have a tendency to divide it into genres and make judgments on certain songs because they are under a certain label. I want to break down those barriers by playing music from a variety of different time periods and styles to show how they connect with each other by giving historical context, explaining composition techniques or methods of production, etc. so that listeners can further appreciate what goes in the work of these artists. Some examples of this could be connecting jazz artists like Bill Evans to hip-hop producers like J Dilla, showing similarities between Tchaikovsky’s 6th symphony and Mahler’s 5th symphony because of their shared treatment of lower frequency sound, or how the production techniques of bands like the Beatles or Led Zeppelin shaped the musical landscape for decades to follow.
